History

A Step Ahead specializes in prescriptive, splints and braces for all of your orthopedic and injury needs and upper and lower prosthesis. Located throughout Central Tennessee and Alabama we offer bracing for management of all traumatic, post surgical, chronic, acquired, and congenital abnormalities. For more than 10 years, A Step Ahead has been serving Central Tennessee and Alabama with great experience and prompt, customized, and accurate services that are unbeatable. Using high-tech and innovative fabrication concepts and designs inside our onsite facilites, we are able to create long-lasting and comforting orthotics and prosthetics that fit you perfectly. In addition, we use only the highest quality of products for your peace of mind.

Our Team

Jason Watson

CO, BOCP

An ABC certified orthotist and BOC certified prosthetist with 13 years of experience serving patients in Huntsville and southern Tennessee.  He earned his B.S. in Athletic Training in 2001 from Troy University, and worked in a PT clinic before beginning his career in O and P in 2002.  He has an extensive history serving pediatric orthotic patients, and works closely with multiple therapy and rehabilitation service groups to provide comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic care for all patient populations.  His approach is one that is collaborative with the patient’s entire rehab team so that the patient is fit appropriately.  Jason believes the overall goal of therapy and orthotic/prosthetic intervention should be unified in order for the patient to enjoy the best possible outcome.

AJ Algiers

CPO, LPO

Having earned a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin and a graduate degree in OandP from Century College in Minnesota,  He has experience with the latest technologies in the O&P field, including certifications with the most recent microprocessor knees, feet, and myoelectric hands.  He enjoys volunteering for AMBUCS, an organization that fits specialty tricycles to accommodate riders of all ages with a myriad of physical and/or developmental challenges.  He finds it all the more rewarding when he is able to build and fit these specialty tricycles for his own patients.  A.J. enjoys seeing his patients succeed and turn their disabilities into abilities.

Joe Rieger

Joe is the cornerstone for everything A Step Ahead has been built upon. His unwavering commitment to providing the best products and services is unmatched. Joe has worked and received training in some of the premier facilities in the Southeast. He specializes in all manner of lower extremity orthotics, but he truly excels as a specialist with the challenging cases. His level of knowledge and care set the bar at A Step Ahead..

JR McNeese

With over a half of a decade in the Orthotic and Prosthetic industry J.R. has experience in many different areas ranging from Diabetic shoes to TLSOs. He truly enjoys providing patients with devices that allow them to perform activities that they would otherwise not be able to. His mission is to focus on the patients’ needs and concerns and provide them with a device that will improve their quality of life.

David Cloud

David is a second generation O&P clinician. He relocated to Nashville from North Carolina. He is originally from Knoxville, TN where he worked with his father and learned he loved the field of patient care. David enjoys the hands on care that he is able to provide to each individual patient. He has worked and trained with some of the largest O&P providers in the state and nation. This gives him a wide base of knowledge to incorporate into his care. He knows the benefit of a proper fitting and fabricated foot and ankle orthotic. He strives to provide shoes and supports to keep you up and moving in order to maintain an active healthy lifestyle.

Rocky Goodall

BOCO BOCP

Rocky is a rare Nashville native, born and raised in middle Tennessee. Rocky has worked many years in this area servicing orthotic and prosthetic patients from all over the state. Rocky has wonderful communication and listening skills. When working with patients, he listens carefully and relates to the patient’s needs. Rocky understands his ability to listen is the key to a good outcome because he is not only a practitioner, but he is a prosthetic patient as well. This gives him the ability to truly empathize and provide uncompromising care.

Meredith Phillips-Watkins

Meredith is American Board Certified and licensed as both a prosthetist and an orthotist. She has been in and around Nashville working in O&P for many years. She started out in marketing, working with physicians and physical therapists, helping to educate and familiarize them with new products and services. This is where she learned she really enjoyed helping people to restore their lives through the care she could help provide. Meredith studied orthotics & prosthetics at Northwester University in Chicago. She completed the program and moved back to Murfreesboro to work and start her family. Meredith is a mother and has the empathy with pediatrics that elevates her care. She strives to have every appointment to be as easy as seeing an old friend.

Brian Cumby

Brian is a Michigan native but a Tennessean at heart that moved to Nashville for a career in Orthotics and Prosthetics. An Alum of Michigan State University’s Kinesiology program and Northwestern University’s Orthotics and Prosthetics program, he appreciates the complexity of the human body and the necessity to maintain its mobility and function.

Brian’s experience ranges from SMOs to CTLSOs and he has a strong interest in lower and upper limb prosthetics. He values high-quality patient care, utilizing the best techniques and devices along with a team-based approach to patient care.

James Neumeyer

BOCP, LP

James started out in the field as an orthotic and prosthetic technician.  He then trained and transitioned into a prosthetic clinician receiving his BOC Certification in 2007.   James has over 14 years of experience in orthotics and prosthetics.  He has worked directly with therapists, vascular and orthopedic surgeons to coordinate care in order to provide the best outcome for the patient.  James believes that every amputee deserves the most appropriate option for their prosthetic needs, and that no two patients are alike.  He enjoys building a relationship with his patients, and strives to provide personalized care.  James is certified and has experience in the most recent microprocessor knees, feet, ankles, myo-electric elbows/hands, and socket systems.  James knows that the prosthesis/orthosis is a vital part of a patient’s daily activities, and he works diligently to provide care that allows them to live life to the fullest.
